President’s Message

As I get close to turning over the virtual gavel, I reflect on my time as Chapter President and share a few thoughts to summarize what meant the most to me during this time.

My first thought is gratitude. I am grateful for the many new relationships I have formed and for the enthusiasm shared with me by many of the members. I am thankful for those who have been willing to step forward as committee volunteers, for a board who helps to keep all the balls in the air and for those who support our education mission as program leaders and sponsors.  Finally, I appreciate those who take the time to share their thoughts with me – with a goal of continued improvement and better member value.

My second thought is pride.  I am proud of the impact our chapter is able to have on individual members through conference and membership scholarships.  I am honored when chapter members step up and answer the call to support the Be the Cause campaign and the AFP Foundation, which is a source of funding for some of these scholarships. I am proud of our profession when our experienced members step up to share through our mentoring opportunities.  I am impressed with the high caliber of award recipients that we have each year at our National Philanthropy Day celebration.

My third thought is responsibility.  To lead a chapter of 300 plus members and ensure that our fiscal monitoring and governance is creating a strong chapter infrastructure is a great responsibility, one that was made much easier by supportive board members and our chapter administrator, Erin Richardson.

Which comes full circle back to gratitude.  Your chapter leadership is a group effort and there are so many who have supported my efforts. AFP has been part of my professional life for more than 20 years, and the friendships and partnerships that I have formed during that time are numerous.  The impact on my career has been immeasurable. If you’re thinking of becoming more involved, you will find great benefits as well.  I’m happy to help you find your place within AFP.

I look forward to seeing many of you in the coming year, just not from the podium!  I wish you all the best during this Holiday Season.

Best,
Nancy
