Founded in 1926, the state-wide nonprofit organization helps infants, children, and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing the support and services they need to live full, successful lives. Each year HEAR Wisconsin provides critical services to thousands of individuals through its early intervention services, sign language interpreting, assistive listening device store, and audiology clinic.
We have an exciting full-time opportunity available for a Director of Development who will serve as the lead fundraising strategist responsible for building and executing HEAR Wisconsin’s development plan. Working closely with the President and CEO, the Fund Development Committee, and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will design and implement a comprehensive multi-year plan for increasing revenue which supports the organization’s plans for growth.
The Director of Development is responsible for the design and execution of HEAR Wisconsin’s fund development efforts including identifying, developing, and nurturing relationships with existing and prospective individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
The successful candidate must be able to think strategically and practically to implement a comprehensive and results-oriented development plan that includes traditional and innovative strategies.
This position reports to the President and CEO and works as a part of the leadership team to further HEAR Wisconsin’s mission and long-term strategic direction. This position oversees a team of two part-time staff.
- Support and partner with the President and CEO to lead all fundraising initiatives including creating a strategic fund development plan to include major gifts, annual appeal, special events and grant writing to meet established revenue goals.
- Engage in active direct face-to-face solicitations and follow up. Design and implement a strategic stewardship plan including donor cultivation and recognition.
- Provide leadership to the Fund Development team fostering a collaborative and cooperative environment.
- Oversee donor relations management including data entry and gift processing, annual special events, annual appeal, and grant proposals.
- Set priorities and develop work calendars, timelines and milestones; monitor progress toward goals; prepare regular reports for the President and CEO.
- Develop, manage and monitor the annual fund development budget.
- Monitor restricted gifts to ensure they are utilized for intended purposes.
- Desire to make a difference in the lives of the infants, children, adults, and seniors we serve who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in fund development, individual giving, and/or major gifts cultivation is required.
- Proven track record of achieving established revenue goals and development metrics including donor growth, donation frequency, first-time and repeat donor retention rates, and new revenue initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, developing and successfully executing a development plan.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, creatively problem solve, and use data analysis for sound decision making.
- Management experience motivating, supervising, and developing a team.
- Results-oriented with the ability to create an environment of accountability and urgency that motivates team members to meet or exceed annual goals.
- Budget management and forecasting experience is required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, possessing the ability to influence and engage a wide range of contributors.
- Strong organizational and time management skills paying exceptional attention to detail.
