Regional Donor Advisor
Lutheran Social Services of WI & Upper MI, a private nonprofit (503c) human service organization is seeking a Regional Donor Advisor to join the growing fundraising team! We are looking for a seasoned and dynamic professional who is passionate about impacting the lives of people throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Your work of developing gifts and legacies that support the mission of Lutheran Social Services will directly impact its ability to continue programming like Public Adoption, Refugee Resettlement, Housing for the Homeless, Senior Living, and more! The position can be based out of one of the following LSS HUB office in Wisconsin; West Allis, Eau Claire, Madison, Baraboo, or Appleton.
The position of Regional Donor Advisor provides leadership in support of the philanthropic efforts of LSS by securing unrestricted gifts through identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors. Reporting to the Vice President-Fundraising and in partnership with colleagues, this critical role establishes clear action plans, goals, priorities and accountabilities to retain existing donors while helping to expand the base of supporters. The position manages a portfolio of approximately 150 assigned and qualified donors including individuals, family foundations, community foundations and corporations that have a capacity and inclination to make a gift of $10,000 or more to support a wide range of agency initiatives. Emphasis is on the western region of Wisconsin including donors and prospects in the Chippewa Valley, LaCrosse, and south Central areas.
As a key member of the advancement team supporting the LSS operations and LSS Foundation functions, this position creates donor engagement through communications that result in high level, meaningful stewardship for the organizations’ major donor communities in their portfolio that demonstrates the impact of giving to LSS and instills confidence that gifts are used according to donor wishes. This strategic and creative role works closely with all areas within the advancement team, as well other departments across LSS programs operating their assigned region. The Advisor plans and manages cultivation strategies to engage and build new funding partnerships and maintain existing ones. The incumbent will operate in a team-oriented department with colleagues based throughout our two-state reach. A high degree of judgement, initiative, confidentiality and integrity are core characteristics of the successful individual along with the ability to adhere to policies and guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain a portfolio of approximately 150 primary prospects. Specific areas of focus include donor retention and upgrading existing donors.
- Responsible for all aspects of the gift cycle in the portfolio including:
- Initiate contacts with current and potential gift donors.
- Develop appropriate cultivation strategies and move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
- Make solicitations when appropriate.
- Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude; and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
- Timely completion of contact reports and notes that demonstrate movement to a gifts and effective stewardship.
- Participate fully in a Moves Management Program to stay connected with and build relationships with donors and prospects.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues for donor stewardship and solicitation. Offer prospect strategy counsel to local program staff who may be working directly with donors. Be a general fund raising resource for LSS staff in the region
- Focus on securing unrestricted support for LSS and the LSS Foundation.
- Develop proposals and impact reports for major gifts, foundation and corporate prospects as required for the solicitation and stewardship process.
- Identify, evaluate and recommend current and potential major gift prospects and assess their ability to financially support the organization and LSS ministry initiatives. Provide research and analysis of biographical, philanthropic, professional and financial information of donors and prospects. Prepare qualified lists and written profiles to support the cultivation of individuals.
- Under guidance from the Director of Donor Communications & Stewardship, create donor-centric messages and communications that lead to retained and new gifts.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or related degree required. A minimum of 5 years’ related experience; successful experience in direct donor solicitation resulting in regular 5 and 6 figure gifts.
- A passion for human services is required.
- Demonstrated writing prowess with a strong emphasis on emotional appeal and storytelling.
- Hands-on experience with a contact management system; Raiser’s Edge/NXT preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and organizational skills. Ability to relate openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people, and build networks inside and outside of the organization.
- Ability to qualify a portfolio of donors that represent the highest giving potential.
- Ability to create reasonable financial goals for each donor, based on the donor’s giving history and potential of future gifts.
- Ability to create a personal contact and solicitation plan that takes into account the individual donor’s interest, motivations, giving patterns and ask preferences.
- Ability to secure project and organization information and create and write effective offers, proposals and asks. Ability to secure information that can be sent back to donors to report on how their money was used.
- Ability to manage schedule, process, and deadlines while adhering to the policies and procedures of LSS. Able to work independently, exercising sound judgement with integrity and maintain confidentiality of donor information.
- Willingness to take on new challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm, while also able to rebound quickly from setbacks and adversity.
- Able to persuade others and use compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to perform the essential duties of the role; a motor vehicle check (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record per the LSS Driver Safety Procedure is required, and ability to meet LSS auto insurance requirements.
- A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred.
Ability to communicate both in verbal and written format, effectively and efficiently in job.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills is required, as is ease with connecting with people and engaging in conversation. Experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies preferred.
Knowledge of contact management system required; Raiser’s Edge/NXT preferred. Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Additional knowledge of computers to allow employee to access computer systems and applications to complete timecards, read and respond to email, and complete required on-line training.

TRAVEL: This position requires daily travel, as well as regional/state travel 60% of the time. Some statewide and overnight travel is required.
